july is a hot kitchen

community kitchen is rolling strong after seven steady months of tuesday free meals. we serve every week in duncan plaza (provided the church groups and their styrofoam to-go plates don’t beat us there like last week). we have a really solid crew of members, often rotating responsibilities and sharing the work load. we’ve been packing up extra produce in family boxes to distribute to our neighbors, and the occasional mid-week food donation makes it out to the duncan plaza and under caliope bridge to folks in need. many thanks to the nola food co-op and hollygrove market & farm for their unwavering support. speaking of, there are a couple urban farms who have expressed interest in donating their surplus harvest to us, as well!

"Solidarity is not a matter of altruism. Solidarity comes from the inability to tolerate the affront to our own integrity of passive or active collaboration in the oppression of others, and from the deep recognition of our most expansive self-interest. From the recognition that, like it or not, our liberation is bound up with that of every other being on the planet, and that politically, spiritually, in our heart of hearts we know anything else is unaffordable."
